Irene Lan

Chairman, Shih Wei Navigation

Irene Lan of Shih Wei Navigation is one of the few female executives in the global shipping industry

In October 2020, the reins of Shih Wei Navigation, a dry bulk operator, was handed over to Irene Lan by her father, the founder J.D. Lan. After getting her degree from the Department of Merchant Marine from the National Taiwan Ocean University, Lan was sent to work at a Danish shipping company.

Two years later, she joined her father’s company as an assistant, eventually helping open its European route. Shih Wei was incorporated in 1985 and owns a total of 37 vessels used for the transportation of dry cargo such as iron ore, coal, and grain. Lan is currently taking the Executive MBA program at National Taiwan University, and is expected to take the helm with new ideas and fresh perspectives.
