Dedicated to increasing female participation in blockchain

Realising that many women lack the exposure and confidence to participate in the blockchain space and represent only seven per cent of the blockchain labour force, former lawyer Ida Mok co-founded Women in Blockchain Asia (WIBA), dedicated to increasing female participation in blockchain-based causes and empowering women with the knowledge, skills, tools and resources to succeed in the blockchain space—the first initiative of its kind in Malaysia that’s grown to nearly 3,000 members.

In WIBA’s first year of operation, Mok and her co-founders partnered with the Algorand Foundation and blockchain development platform REACH to launch the first women-centric blockchain programmer course in seven participating Malaysian universities. A total of 163 students attended and completed this free training course, 50 per cent of whom were women. The course culminated in an inter-university hackathon, which also saw 50 per cent female participation. That same year, Mok was honoured among the Unstoppable Women of Web3’s Most Inspirational Women of Web3 and AI.

Mok is also the founder of South Australia Women in Blockchain and Emerging Tech, and Chief Legal Officer at Fluidity Money. A highly respected voice in the tech and Web3 space, Mok has been invited to speak at blockchain conferences in Malaysia and Australia where she’s currently based. Most recently, she was selected as one of the speakers at the Australian Crypto Convention in November 2023.
