Formerly involved with a global port management company, ICTSI, this entrepreneurial beer-lover felt that he had another calling and decided to set up something quite left feld—his very own microbrewery. Besides building and launching his craft brand, Engkanto, under which his fve fagship Filipino palate-inspired beers (lager, blonde ale, pale ale, India pale ale, and double IPA) were very well-received, Ian opened Polilya, his frst bar, last December. It has fast become one of the hottest spots in Makati! Though, according to Ian, draught is the best way to imbibe the frothy beverage, he plans to launch his babies in bottle format this year so as to meet the demand in his hometown of Cebu and other parts of the archipelago. A simple family man, says Ian, “I like to spend time with my kids, laugh with my wife, [play with] Lego or go have a nice cold beer. And if I could play golf more often I would, even though I am terrible at it.”
