hud bakar

With over three decades of architectural experience, Hud Bakar currently leads the multi-award-winning architecture firm, RSP Architects Sdn Bhd. Throughout his illustrious career, Hud has played a pivotal role in shaping Malaysia's skyline, including his involvement in the construction of the second-tallest tower in the world, the Merdeka 118, which is soon to be complete.

A versatile talent from his early years, Hud was a scholarship student at Victoria Institution in Kuala Lumpur, where he excelled not only academically but also on the sports field, prominently in rugby among other activities. This remarkable streak of achievement continued as Hud pursued his architectural studies in the United States, culminating in his receipt of a Master of Architecture degree from UC Berkeley in California.

Having initiated his professional journey in HOK San Francisco, Hud eventually returned to Malaysia to ascend the ranks, eventually becoming the director of Kumpulan Senireka before assuming control of RSP Malaysia in 1996. Presently, Hud guides a dedicated team of over 150 individuals, and the firm is celebrated for its portfolio of projects characterized by a distinctive, contemporary spirit.

Notable accomplishments include the striking MACC building, the MITEC exhibition center renowned for its unique design, the culturally-influenced Jakim building in Putrajaya, and the iconic Naza and Tabung Haji twin towers at Platinum Park KLCC. In 2023, Hud successfully oversaw the completion of the new EPF Headquarters at Kwasa Damansara, and he eagerly anticipates the upcoming milestones of 8 Conlay and of course, the Merdeka 118.

While Hud has amassed numerous accolades in his distinguished career, he humbly aspires to be recognised as a conscientious architect who creates structures that ignite inspiration. In response to recent challenges posed by the global pandemic and rising construction costs, he has adapted his design approach, focusing on crafting affordable luxury resorts, repurposing heritage buildings while preserving their original essence, and creating serene mosques and surau that engage the human senses in unique ways.
