Hsien Hung Chen, the new chairman of EVA Airways, looks to be the wind beneath Taiwan’s wings

Hsien Hung Chen, former president of EVA Airways, took over as chairman in early 2020. He has been with the Evergreen group since 1981, and possesses an educational background in aviation and tourism. Founded in 1989 as an affiliate of the Evergreen shipping conglomerate, EVA is Taiwan’s first private international airline and currently has a fleet of 88 aircraft.

Ever since the pandemic led to a significant drop in passenger volume, the airline shifted its focus to the cargo market, taking advantage of the demand in international air cargo due to the tight capacity and congestion of container ships. In 2021, EVA was ranked seventh among the world’s top ten airlines at the Skytrax World Airline Awards. The airline has also maintained its virtually flawless safety record, ranking sixth in the world’s top 20 safest airlines according to Airlineratings.com.

At the 65th annual conference of the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines, EVA committed to reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
