Hsiao Yen Chang

Artist, Host, Actor, Entrepreneur

In an industry dominated by male hosts, Hsiao Yen Chang has outlasted them all

Not a lot of child stars have the same staying power as Hsiao Yen Chang, who starred in her first film at the age of five, won her first acting award at ten, and continues to delight and engage audiences both old and new in her 70s.

When Taiwan’s first television station was launched, Chang was part of its founding troupe. The nation’s television-watching audience grew up with Chang and followed all her shows, from Variety 100, Super Sunday, Million Dollar Class to SS Hsiao Yen Night.

“The Godmother of the Variety Show” found longevity through multi-dimensionality, taking on roles that other actresses have shied away from. Chang also cofounded the record label Forward Music, launching the careers of many pop stars, and currently serves as the president of artist management company Grand Pan Communication. She remains one of Taiwan’s most trusted TV personalities, and in 2019 received the 54th Golden Bell Lifetime Achievement Award.
