Heng Swee Keat
Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, Singapore Government
Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat holds concurrent positions as the country’s Co-ordinating Minister for Economic Policies and the ruling People’s Action Party’s (PAP) first assistant secretary-general. He is a Member of Parliament for East Coast GRC (Bedok ward), and a key figure in the PAP’s fourth-generation team.
Heng has held a number of past roles in his government career, including Minister for Finance and Minister for Education. He was managing director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore before he entered politics in 2011. He also served as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, as well as CEO of the then-Trade Development Board.
Heng is chairman of the National Research Foundation, which sets Singapore’s research, innovation and enterprise strategies; he also chairs the tripartite Future Economy Council, which manages the re-structuring of the country’s economy to face future challenges. He also serves as adviser to National Jobs Council and the country’s Covid-19 multi-ministry task force.

Heng Swee Keat was the recipient of an overseas scholarship from the Singapore Police Force in 1980, and returned after his studies at Christ’s College, the University of Cambridge to serve at the national law-enforcement agency in various roles for 17 years.
