For whetting Indonesia’s appetite for plant-based foods

Undeterred by multiple chronic health conditions faced as a child, Helga Angelina Tjahjadi turned her issues into triumph by expanding her plant-based diet, which she originally used to self-heal, into a restaurant chain. In 2013, she and her husband Max started Burgreens, Jakarta’s first plant-based fast food restaurant offering familiar Indonesian flavours such as rendang. On top of ensuring sustainable, healthy meals, Burgreens also sources its produce from local farmers and intentionally trains and hires underprivileged women into its workforce. In 2020, at the height of the pandemic, the co-founders started their second business, Green Rebel, a food-tech startup developing ready Asian-flavoured meals with whole-cut plant-based meat and chicken. Its products also use natural and non-GMO ingredients and are free of additional preservatives.

As entrepreneurs, even though we don’t know all parts of things, we have this conviction that we’re going to get there
