Han Jian Lin Hsieh

Chairwoman, Hungguo Group

Han Jian Lin Hsieh is the woman who rescued Hongguo Group from financial ruin

Han Jian Lin Hsieh was once the 11th richest person in Taiwan and the richest woman in Taiwan. She is the widow of Yu Qi Lin, who founded the Hongguo Group with his brothers in 1964.

When he died early at the age of 45, she took over the company. In 2000, an internal financial crisis broke out, sparked by the Asian Financial Crisis, a housing market downturn, and an investigation concerning one of her sons, leaving the company with over NT$60.5 billion in debt. Not wanting to leave the third generation in the grip of this debt, she worked to pay this off in 15 years, the shortest time for debt repayment in the history of Taiwanese companies.

Though her personal property has been reduced, she is still “Taiwan’s richest grandma”. The Hongguo Group owns Caesars Hotel, Hung Kuo Construction, and the Hung Kuo Delin University of Science and Technology, among others.
