Founder, Starlux Airlines
Guo Wei Chang, the formerly embattled airline heir, takes to the skies in his own rocketship
Guo Wei Chang, a son of EVA Airways founder Yang-fa Chang, launched his own boutique luxury airline in January 2020, the first in Taiwan to use the new Airbus A321neo and A350-1000 aircraft. When the pandemic suspended international flights, Starlux Airlines began offering “flights to nowhere” to satisfy sightseeing-lust for a few hours in the sky. Likewise, to keep revenue flowing whilst flights were suspended, Starlux relaunched the online Starlux Shop, offering unusual items such as mooncakes packaged in miniature air cargo boxes.
In October 2022, the airline was listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange's Emerging Stock Board. The company also announced that it was scheduled to expand its Airbus fleet, adding seven aircraft by the end of 2022: by then, the fleet would comprise 13 Airbus A321-200neos, four A330-900neos and two A350 aircraft. It is also scheduled to add four more aircraft by the end of 2023. Flights to Los Angeles and San Francisco are also planned to begin in 2023.
