One of Hong Kong’s foremost tycoons, Gordon Wu has used his real estate fortune to fund education

After establishing his company in 1972, Hopewell Holdings co-founder and chairman Gordon Wu built it into an influential conglomerate with operations ranging from infrastructure to real estate to hospitality. He served as managing director of the company until he stepped down in 2001, and was also the chairman of Hopewell Highway Infrastructure, which his company sold in 2018.

Wu is also a non-executive director of i-Cable Communications, an advisor to China Development Bank and the vice president of the Real Estate Developers Association of Hong Kong. A dedicated contributor to educational causes, he has donated US$100 million to Princeton University, his alma mater, and is chairman of the council of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

A member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, he has both British and Belgian knighthoods, as well as a Gold Bauhinia Star. He is married to Ivy, with whom he has a son, Thomas.
