Gooi Seong Lim

A veteran Malaysian entrepreneur who leads Crescendo Corporation and Kim Loong Resources, driving growth across property development, plantations and industrial sectors

For five decades, Gooi Seong Lim has shaped Johor's economic trajectory through his leadership of Crescendo Corporation and Kim Loong Resources, demonstrating an engineer's grasp of how infrastructure, geography and policy frameworks create value. A University of Toronto graduate who began managing his family’s operations in 1975, Gooi has built an empire now valued at US$535 million—placing the Gooi family at number 39 on Forbes Malaysia's 50 Richest List through disciplined land banking, township development and agricultural excellence.

His most prescient achievement lies in recognising that Johor would become Southeast Asia's data centre frontier. Since November 2023 Crescendo has executed multiple strategic land sales within the Nusa Cemerlang Industrial Park to global hyperscale operators including Microsoft, STT GDC and UK-based Magma Holdings, generating over RM913 million in proceeds. This foresight—understanding that Johor's competitive power costs and land availability adjacent to Singapore would attract the region's most capital-intensive infrastructure.

Beyond industrial infrastructure, Crescendo is expanding into mixed-use communities. In the second half of 2025 the company plans to launch a serviced apartment project situated along Jalan Senyum in close proximity to the Johor Bahru-Singapore RTS terminal. Simultaneously commanding Kim Loong Resources, Gooi steers plantations spanning 16,922 hectares across Johor, Sabah and Sarawak, delivering record net profit of RM162.3 million in FY2023. Working alongside his three younger brothers, Gooi demonstrates that multigenerational success stems from anticipating how global capital flows reshape regional geography—and positioning assets accordingly.
