Gong PengPeng

Peng-Peng Gong graduated from the Faculty of Composition at the Juilliard School in the US and is composer-in-residence for the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra. A prolific composer, Peng-Peng completed his ninth symphony before turning 25, and has published 15 grand works, including four symphonies, two piano concertos, three chamber works, piano solos, the symphonic overture Sorrow Poem and the symphonic poem Clock Career. His works have been collected by the libraries of many music schools in the US since 2012, making him the only student to have received such honour in the history of Juilliard. As a scholar, Peng-Peng focuses on the study of post-romantic music and has done in-depth research on world-class musicians of the 19th century such as Mahler, Rachmaninoff and Puccini. In 2009, as a 17-year-old, he gave a lecture on Mahler’s symphonies in the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing. In October 2015, he was invited to create the music for Someone to Talk to, an adaptation of Zhenyun Liu’s novel of the same name. In April 2016, Peng-Peng held the premiere in Europe of his Piano Concerto No.3 Zhanghua Chronicles together with the Orchestre Philarmonique de Nice.
