With one of the most successful tours ever, the sky’s the limit for the Hong Kong songsmith

Born Gloria Tang Sze-wing, the Hong Kong-raised pop icon better known as GEM—an acronym for “get everybody moving”—is often referred to as China’s Taylor Swift. Both she and the US pop star are known for writing their own songs, often confessional compositions on the subject of romance; and both have held among the most successful tours in history. Like Swift, Tang has also released a re-recorded album of songs following her departure from her former label.

Born into a family of musicians, she started writing songs at the age of five and won her first recording contract while she was still at school. She broke through in the late 2000s with a series of hit albums in both Cantonese and Mandarin, and was pushed even further into the musical stratosphere by her 2014 appearance on reality show I Am a Singer.

On July 13, 2025, she performed the 105th show of her I Am Gloria World Tour in Shenyang, China, officially taking the world record for the female C-pop (which includes Canto-pop and Mando-pop) artist with the most concerts on a single tour. The tour began on December 7, 2023 and took the singer across stadiums in the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia, before expanding into major arenas across Europe and North America. The final concert, in Nanning, was the 133rd of the tour.

As many as three million people attended the tour. As of March 2025, it had grossed US$424 million—a far cry from her US counterpart but still enough to make it the fourth highest grossing tour of all time by a female artist.
