Founder and chairman, BreadTalk Group
Building a world-class food empire from a single bakery concept
George Quek is the founder of BreadTalk Group, the Singapore-based bakery brand that revolutionised the way locals viewed bread when it launched in 2000. Inspired by the artisanal bakeries he encountered in Japan and Taiwan, Quek envisioned a modern bakery that offered freshly baked goods presented with flair and creativity. BreadTalk quickly became known for its signature Floss buns and inventive pastries, capturing the imagination of consumers and setting new standards for bakery retail in Asia.
Under Quek’s leadership, BreadTalk evolved into a global food and beverage group with a portfolio that includes Toast Box, Food Republic, Din Tai Fung (Singapore), and other renowned brands. The company’s expansion across more than 15 markets reflects Quek’s entrepreneurial vision and deep understanding of Asian consumer tastes.
Before BreadTalk, Quek honed his business acumen through ventures in Taiwan’s F&B industry, including a successful confectionery business. His ability to blend culinary innovation with strong brand storytelling turned BreadTalk into a household name and a symbol of Singapore’s creative enterprise.
Today, Quek continues to play an influential role in shaping Asia’s dining culture, with BreadTalk’s distinctive approach to food retail inspiring new generations of entrepreneurs.
