CEO, Adaro Energy
While his younger brother, Erick Thohir, grabbed headlines when he purchased the Italian soccer club Inter Milan in 2013, Garibaldi Thohir maintains a lower profile despite being one of Indonesia’s wealthiest men. He serves as the CEO of coal-mining giant Adaro Energy, one of the top coal exporters in the world. In 2011, the company made it to the list of Asia’s Fab 50 Companies by Forbes.
The firm has managed to maintain one of the lowest production costs while earnings remain high, garnering themselves a reputation as one of Indonesia’s most well-managed coal companies. Adaro Energy also completed its first renewable-energy power plant to electrify islands in Central Sulawesi and is looking to invest in more renewable-energy businesses.
Thohir attended the University of Southern California for his undergraduate degree and gained an MBA from Northrop University, Los Angeles. His business empire also extends to restaurant chains and a telecommunications operator.
