Ganjar Pranowo

With over two million followers on Twitter, one cannot deny the popularity of Ganjar Pranowo, or the “Twitter governor,” who has become a well-loved political figure in Indonesia. While a part of it is his ability to maintain connections with the people through maintaining an active and approachable Twitter account, it is mostly his people-first policies and fast actions for the public good that have made him rise to fame. Pranowo has been serving as the governor of Central Java province since 2013. Coming from a simple childhood, he grew up on the slopes of Mount Lawu. He began his political career straight after college. Previously, he was a member of the People’s Representative Council (2004-2013). Through the years, he has earned recognition for his work. Last year, the Central Java province earned the Sistem Akuntabilitas Kinerja Instansi Pemerintahan (SAKIP) Award 2019 for efficiently utilising the state budget. From 2015-2017, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) awarded his gubernatorial office for ensuring clean governance. And in 2018, he received the Paritrana Award for championing labour rights. Ganjar has also been credited for developing an e-planning and e-budgeting system to simplify bureaucracy and the Sihati system to control and monitor market commodity prices. He obtained his law degree from the University of Gadjah Mada (UGM).
