Fuadi Pitsuwan

Co-founder, Beanspire

A sense of patriotism drove Harvard graduate and current Oxford doctorate candidate Fuadi Pitsuwan to co-found Beanspire, a green bean exporting company, in 2014. Even while studying overseas (and making his own coffee for others), he dedicates time to Beanspire, from corresponding to potential buyers, writing contracts, to accessing articles about coffee processing. He returns to Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai during winter break, which is also harvest season, to relay cutting-edge, science-based information. He produces the coffee at Doi Pangkhon with Ata, and Doi Saket with Aoy and Nui, before marketing it to local and international roasters. Currently, the beans have 83 – 86 cupping points, which he hope to push to competition levels of 90+ points. Additionally, he hopes to raise the profile of Thai coffee locally and internationally, and that coffee tariffs will drop. Inspired by his family, he is also dedicated to making a positive social impact. For example, he led fellow students in relief efforts after the 2004 Asian tsunami. Passionate about education, Fuadi is also a member of the advisory board for Teach for Thailand, and plans to establish a foundation named after his late father, Dr Surin, for educational development in the ASEAN region.
