Fish Liew’s fondness for Asian cinema stems from her father, who brought back movies from his business trips for her to watch. Originally, the award-winning actress studied film and television in Malaysia, but ventured out to Hong Kong when she realised she wanted to be in front of the camera, rather than behind it.

The Johor Bahru-born actress moved to the former British colony in 2012, determined to grow her career in Hong Kong’s thriving film industry. With her first film, Doomsday Party, Liew earned her first nomination for Best New Performer at the 33rd Hong Kong Film Awards. She received another nomination, this time for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Sisterhood, at the 36th Hong Kong Film Awards. She won Outstanding Talent Award at the 12th Osaka Asian Film Festival for the same role.

This year, Liew received two nominations for Best Supporting Actor at the Hong Kong Film Awards for her performance in the Anita Mui biopic as well as the thriller Limbo. She won for the former, in which she portrayed the late singing superstar's elder sister, Ann.

Although she was hesitant at first, she claimed to have no regrets. “I really, really try my best in every show that I appear in.
