Fernando Sindu

Chef and Co-founder, SevenFriday Space, Benedict Jakarta, and Canting Restaurant

Chef Fernando Sindu, familiarly called Nando, marries Indonesian classic flavors with a modern taste. Having to shelf his professional basketball dreams due to a busted kneecap, family pressures led Nando to first graduate from Computer Science at Massey University of New Zealand and work at Microsoft NZ before embarking on a journey with the Culinary Institute of America in New York. There, he met Ivan Wibowo, who would work in Noma before becoming Fernando’s partner. After a stint as head chef of La Boqueria New York, Fernando now manages a private dining business Good For Eats (G48) and three bustling restaurants in Indonesia. G48 started as an unplanned part-time venture, and grew to consultations, demos, and catering for hundreds of people. This led to them doing pop-ups to test the brunch market for Union. Now, he is the co-founder of SevenFriday Space, a hip café and lifestyle concept store in Plaza Indonesia, as well as Benedict Jakarta, a premier all-day breakfast and brunch restaurant under The Union Group, and Canting Restaurant, a casual-dining rooftop bistro and bar in Yogyakarta. To keep up with the dynamic food market, Nando will explore even more local dishes and give it a distinctive twist.
