Federico "Piki" Lopez

Chairman and CEO, First Philippine Holdings Corp.

Federico “Piki” Lopez balances his corporate work with his environmental advocacy

Federico "Piki" Lopez is the third-generation line of management of the Lopez group of companies. Currently, he is chairman and CEO of First Philippine Holdings (FPH) as well as First Gen Corporation, which owns FPH’s business in power generation and focuses on clean energy.

Outside of his corporate work, Lopez is involved with environmental initiatives such as the Oscar M Lopez Centre for Climate Change Adaptation, where he is chairman, and a member of the boards of Forest Foundation Philippines and Teach Philippines.

His advocacy is expressed in his work, with Lopez and his team paving the way for a greener community. “It is often said that the Covid-19 pandemic was just a ‘dress rehearsal’ for how we will face an even more perilous world from the impacts of climate change, which is the greatest challenge of our time,” Lopez says. “Therefore, the overriding goal is to solve climate change, which means mitigating it and adapting to its impacts already here.”

Calling the decarbonising and scaling up of a green electricity grid over the next three decades “probably the greatest energy transition in the history of mankind,” Lopez supports the total revamp of the electricity system to build a new one using new components.” For that to happen, Lopez says that all major players, even among competitors, should come together for a “successful and just energy transition.”And these also need well-coordinated and timely action on the part of leaders, policymakers and regulators who must be decisive and well-versed on the elements that make for a successful and just energy transition.”
