Fan Yang worked at Bowery Capital, an early stage venture capital investment firm in New York, and also served as vice chairman of the MIT-China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum (MIT-CHIEF) before returning to China in 2015. An avid traveller and adventurer with a love for working in architecture and art in his spare time, Yang was the second Chinese member of The Explorers Club. In early 2017 he changed careers and launched the urban sharing space app ELSEWHERE. Similar to Airbnb, the platform connects users and space owners, and allows users to book all kinds of spaces on an hourly basis. These spaces, contrary to Airbnb, are mainly used for private work, meetings and experiences rather than for accommodation and can range from private reception rooms to architect studios and are often non-commercial venues. In January 2017, ELSEWHERE received angel investment from MatrixPartners.
