Vice-chairman, Capella Hotel Group; head of design and hospitality, Pontiac Land Group
Design-driven hotelier shaping Capella’s global expansion and legacy of modern luxury
Blending heritage, craftsmanship and contemporary sensibility, Evan Kwee has redefined luxury hospitality for a new generation. As vice-chairman of Capella Hotel Group and head of design and hospitality at Pontiac Land Group, he has been instrumental in driving the group’s global expansion and design-led evolution.
Under his leadership, Capella entered a new phase of growth in 2025, expanding its portfolio from eight to 12 properties across Asia and beyond—including Capella Taipei, Patina Osaka, Capella Kyoto and Capella at Galaxy Macau. Each property reflects Kwee’s “embrace and elevate” philosophy, balancing cultural authenticity with contemporary refinement. His collaborative approach with leading architects and designers—from Norman Foster and Kengo Kuma to André Fu—underscores his belief that “true luxury lies in craftsmanship and the stories embedded within each design element.”
A third-generation member of the Kwee family, founders of Pontiac Land Group, Kwee spearheaded iconic developments such as Capella Singapore, the group’s flagship on Sentosa Island, and the Fari Islands in the Maldives—an integrated development that redefines sustainable luxury. His vision for “legacy luxury” places emphasis not on possession but on meaningful experiences, community integration and environmental stewardship.
With a business degree from Babson College, Kwee developed his design sensibility organically through practice and intuition. Today, he continues to shape Capella’s future as a custodian of his family’s legacy—preserving architectural integrity while ensuring its relevance for the future.
