Eva Chen

Co-founder and CEO, Trend Micro

Eva Chen, one of the three most powerful Taiwanese women in tech, is also a global cybersecurity leader

Trend Micro cemented its position as a leader in cloud security when it launched Cloud One, a unified security platform that allows organisations to transfer their data centres into the cloud with layered protection across networks. The company, originally known for its antivirus software, was founded in 1988 by Eva Chen, her sister Jenny and brother-in-law Steve Chang. On top of being a global cybersecurity leader, Chen, who became the company’s CEO in 2004, is one of the most powerful women in the field of science and technology.

Network security platform Trend Micro One hit record-high revenues in 2021 and continued to perform well in 2022. In May 2022, Chen established VicOne, a new company focusing on vehicle security, to assist in the production of electric vehicles.

Chen advocates strongly for diversity in the IT industry through initiatives like Close the Gap, which was launched in 2018 to help women find more opportunities in tech. Partnering with the non-profit group Girls in Tech, Trend Micro developed a Cybersecurity Fundamentals course for its members, covering network security threats, malware and other relevant topics.

Chen spends her week commuting between Los Angeles, where her family lives; Taipei, where she meets with the Asian-based teams; and Tokyo, where the company is headquartered.
