A Lithuanian-born street artist known for playful, immersive murals that blend painted figures with real-life objects and champion creative rights

Lithuanian-born artist Ernest Zacharevic is celebrated for transforming urban spaces into playful, immersive art experiences. Renowned for murals that blend painted figures with real-life objects, his work often evokes nostalgia and humour, with children taking centre stage in iconic pieces such as Children on a Bicycle in George Town, Penang. By integrating ordinary street elements such as holes, pipes and walls into his compositions, Zacharevic invites viewers to explore and interpret art on their own terms.

In 2025, he shifted from whimsy to advocacy with his campaign and exhibition We Need To Talk at Cultprint, Penang. Responding to the unauthorised commercial use of his murals, the project combined immersive installations and public forums to highlight the exploitation of independent creatives in Southeast Asia. Through this effort, Zacharevic challenged corporations profiting from artists’ works without recognition or compensation, bringing systemic issues of creative appropriation and silencing into the public eye.

By merging inventive street art with urgent activism, Zacharevic not only redefines public spaces but also amplifies the conversation around artists’ rights, demonstrating how creativity can intersect with social responsibility.
