Erick Thohir

Erick Thohir is the son of Teddy Thohir, the co-owner of Astra Group. The 1970-born businessman spent his college years in California. After finishing his BA and MA in Glendale Community College and National University San Diego, he founded the now-giant media group Mahaka in 2002. He started by acquiring the already established Republika newspaper and creating Jak TV, among the pioneering free-to-air broadcast TV channels, besides numerous radio channels and other new media platforms. In 2018, Erick started a career in politics by becoming the chief of the re-election campaign for President Joko Widodo, which led him to become the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises. As an accomplished entrepreneur, Erick’s goal is to reform state-owned enterprises and restructure ineffective companies. When the pandemic hit, Eric was the chief of the Committee for Handling Covid-19 and National Economic Recovery, the new institution for synergising economic recovery policies.
