Elaine Kwok

Elaine Kwok is an international arts professional who currently serves as the managing partner of Asia at Hauser & Wirth, where she is responsible for the international gallery’s operations in the region.

Kwok also serves on the Museum Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong government’s Leisure and Cultural Services Department, and is the vice chair of the executive committee of the Friends of Hong Kong Museum of Art. She is also a board member of Societé des Amis du Musée Guimet.

Kwok also served as director at the department of 20th and 21st century art for Christie’s in the Asia Pacific region for 15 years, joining as a business manager first in London, before relocating to Hong Kong in 2008.

Upon moving to Hong Kong she also trained as an auctioneer and conducts sales simultaneously in Cantonese, Mandarin and English. Specialising in modern and contemporary art, in 2018 she sold “Wood and Rock” by Su Shi for US$60 million, the most expensive work of art that Christie’s has ever sold in Asia. She is also a regular charity auctioneer, for organisations including Asia Art Archive, Operation Smile and Teach for China. Before joining Christie’s, she had previously worked for the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Goldman Sachs.

Elaine Kwok has three children with her husband, Adrian Cheong.
