The accomplished banking and finance executive is helping the nation achieve its cashless agenda

The GCEO of Touch ‘n Go, Effendy Shahul Hamid has established a long career in banking and finance, in particular with the CIMB Group. He joined the group after spending several years in international companies where he was involved in private equity, and mergers and acquisitions, across Asia-Pacific.

In his 18 years and counting at CIMB, Effendy has served in numerous leadership roles in areas of investment banking and commercial banking, as well as marketing and communications. He currently serves as CEO of CIMB Digital Assets, where he oversees all of CIMB Group’s investments, partnerships and value-creation activities in the digital space.

Effendy is also an executive director of Touch ‘n Go and chairman of TNG Digital, the operator of the Touch ‘n Go e-wallet. Marking the e-wallet’s foray into the mainstream financial-services sector, he recently launched its breakthrough investment product GO+, which enables Malaysians to gain access to low-risk money market investments with as little as RM10.

Effendy Shahul Hamid has an honours degree in Electronical Engineering with Optoelectronics from University College, London. He also completed executive leadership and advanced management programmes at INSEAD, France and Columbia Business School, New York.
