Billionaire entrepreneur and venture capitalist Eduardo Saverin is betting on Asia

Best known for being a co-founder of social media giant Facebook, Singapore resident Eduardo Saverin is also the co-founder and partner of digital technology investment firm, B Capital Group. Saverin launched the venture capital firm in 2015 with former Bain Capital executive and his friend from their Harvard days, Raj Ganguly. B Capital Group raised US$360 million for its first fund in 2018, and its existing portfolio includes start-ups such as Ninja Van and autonomous vehicle technology company AImotive.

B Capital clients include commerce, logistics, healthcare and business software companies, among others. The venture firm recently announced a foray into China, with its eye on tech start-ups serving businesses in healthcare, financial services and transportation. In less than ten years, Saverin and his team have transformed B Capital into a global firm with eight locations and over US$6.5 billion in assets under management.

In 2023, B Capital successfully closed its third venture growth fund, known as Growth Fund III, with total capital commitments of approximately US$2.1 billion. B Capital also led a US$53 million Series B funding initiative for personal finance platform Payfazz and a US$20 million Series A round for e-commerce platform Ula in Indonesia. In India, it is backing B2B packaging-materials marketplace Bizongo, logistics start-up BlackBuck, and Khatabook, a startup helping small businesses record financial transactions and accept payments digitally with an app.

Beyond his investment endeavours, Saverin is dedicated to philanthropy. He supports educational initiatives and programs aimed at empowering underprivileged communities. His charitable work reflects his belief in leveraging technology for social good. This year, Saverin’s family donated $20 million to the Singapore American School (SAS)—the largest contribution in the school’s history.
