Co-founder, Inside Scoop
Edmund Tan is the co-founder of the successful homegrown ice cream chain Inside Scoop, which he established with his wife Lim Shiew Li. A former investment banker who always dreamt of being an entrepreneur some day, Tan settled on the idea of an F&B business, given their shared interest in food. Deciding to give the premium ice cream business a try—inspired by their love for ice cream and because they also noticed a gap in the market in terms of flavours that catered to the Malaysian palate—they established their first Inside Scoop ice cream parlour in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur.
As one of the only artisanal ice-cream stores in town, and offering local flavours like durian, cempedak, teh tarik, cendol, kopi peng and salted gula melaka, Inside Scoop won over Malaysians in a heartbeat. Tan quickly expanded, with the second store opening in Damansara Jaya in less than a year. Now, with more than 20 stores throughout peninsular Malaysia, Tan is focused on the business side of his ice-cream empire as his wife continues to experiment with and deliver delightful new flavours.
