The driving force behind the Hextar Group, he built a diversified Malaysian business empire spanning agrochemicals, industry, logistics and manufacturing

Dato’ Eddie Ong Choo Meng has orchestrated one of Malaysia’s more ambitious corporate transformations. After joining his family’s business, Hextar Holdings, Ong helped professionalise operations and drive aggressive expansion. He now serves as CEO and executive director of the Hextar Group, which marked its 40th anniversary in June 2025.

Under Ong’s leadership, Hextar has grown into a diversified conglomerate covering nine key sectors—agrochemicals, specialty chemicals, food and beverage, healthcare, logistics, telecommunications, renewable energy, asset management, and fintech. The group now spans 36 industries with more than 8,400 products and services and exports to over 60 countries.

In May 2025, Hextar Capital won a landmark RM427.5 million contract from Tenaga Nasional Berhad to construct Malaysia’s inaugural 500-kilovolt super high-voltage power transmission system—a project that positions Hextar at the forefront of national infrastructure development.

Ong’s portfolio includes ventures such as Hextar World at Empire City in Damansara, due to officially open in 2025. The mega mall covers 1.8 million square feet, features six major themed zones, and will offer Malaysia’s largest indoor water park, biggest indoor ski training facility, Olympic-sized ice skating stadium, and more.

Hextar has publicly pledged alignment with Malaysia’s national net zero carbon emissions goal by 2050 and has committed to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) policies throughout its operations. Ong’s diversification thesis has been reinforced by improved financial performance, helping cement Hextar’s role as a key player locally and abroad.
