Environmental research scientist, CSIRO
The lead modeller driving an international weather service for water quality
Dr Duy Nguyen is helping shape the future of global water security as a lead modeller within CSIRO’s AquaWatch initiative, an emerging weather service for water quality. By combining satellites, sensors, artificial intelligence, and environmental modelling, his work turns complex environmental data into practical tools for managing water security risks. Across Australia, Vietnam and the wider Asia-Pacific, Duy works through high-profile international collaborations to support water utilities, communities, governments, agriculture and aquaculture. His scientific leadership has earned recognition, including CSIRO’s John Philip Award and the 2025 ASCE Karl Emil Hilgard Hydraulic Prize from the United States.
