A leading voice in obstetrics and gynaecology research in Malaysia, Dr Premitha Damodaran chairs the Menopause and Midlife Health sub-committee in the Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Malaysia. She is responsible for the Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Management of Menopause in Malaysia—the first in Southeast Asia launched in 2022. Dedicated to promoting a better understanding of menopause’s implications for Malaysian women, she actively contributes to the development of a menopause certification program for doctors.

In her tenure from 2008 to 2017, she played a crucial role in the establishment of Patai Hospital Kuala Lumpur as the first breastfeeding-friendly private hospital in Malaysia. Damodaran has also co-authored studies in notable journals, including the Singapore Medical Journal and The Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Research. In 2023, she received the FIGO Award in Paris from the International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics for her significant contributions to the field.

Throughout her career, Damodaran has worked to promote a greater understanding of women’s health issues in society, from the effects of menopause on the career and lifestyle of the average Malaysian woman to medical management of hormonal imbalances. Specialising in menopause and hormone replacement therapy and the medical management of gynaecological problems, Damodaran has co-authored studies published in journals including Singapore Medical Journal and The Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Research.
