The artistic director of the Chung Ying Theatre Company, Dominic Cheung got his first job—as an actor for the troupe—in 1982, and has since worked for it in a wide variety of roles, including director, producer, actor and translator.

One of Hong Kong’s leading performing arts organisations, the company was founded by the British Council in 1979, originally to produce English-language theatre. It subsequently became known for locally relevant, Cantonese-language adaptations of western classics, as well as for its ambitious collaborations with overseas theatrical talent. It has staged more than 360 productions since it was founded, touring extensively throughout Asia, North America, Europe and elsewhere, and received close to 100 major awards in the process.

Chung Ying Theatre Company has placed a big emphasis on education for many years, with an education and outreach department set up in the 1990s, and performances touring around schools that have been seen by nearly a million students over the years.
