Designer, IKAT
In 2010, Indonesians displayed their resentment on social media when other countries claimed ownership over the batik textile. While citizens decried the issue, Didiet Maulana formulated a plan: to keep the spirit of local Indonesian weaves alive by connecting it to young consumers. He established IKAT Indonesia in 2011, which uses tenun ikat, a traditional woven fabric where each pattern tells a story.
IKAT Indonesia has collaborated with international brands like Starbucks and American accessories brand TUMI, and even collaborated with Disney to celebrate Mickey Mouse's 90th anniversary. The company has also designed clothing for finance ministers and deputies for events like the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum; it has also made corporate uniforms for clients like Jakarta’s Shangri-La Hotel and Garuda Airlines.
Didiet graduated from architecture school at the Parahyangan Catholic University, Bandung. Previously, he worked with Radio OZ Bandung, MTV Indonesia and luxury fashion business Gilang Agung Persada.
