If you’ve been paying attention to Malaysian fashion lately, chances are you’ve come across Dickson Lim’s work. After going viral for dressing Beyoncé’s stylist, the designer has certainly had more eyes on his work—but the attention feels fitting for someone whose clothes are hard to overlook. “I would describe my style as chic, sharp, and architectural,” Lim says. His go-to look is surprisingly simple: a DL T-shirt with a pair of tailored trousers, whether oversized and pleated, wide-legged or sharply cut. It’s become something of a uniform, giving him the comfort to move while still playing with volume and precision.

That same mindset carries into his work. While his earlier collections were about establishing his identity as a designer, Lim says he is now more focused on pushing the language he has already created. “How can I push this design language forward while still making it feel unmistakably Dickson Lim?”

And when it comes to Malaysian fashion, he’s noticed a real shift. The shows, styling, production and ideas are all getting stronger. Now, he hopes that growth is matched by a greater appreciation for original design and craftsmanship.
