In her long and storied career, journalist Desi Anwar has seen many milestones in the country’s media industry

A widely respected news presenter and television producer, Desi has interviewed many heads of state and other hugely influential figures. She is currently one of the country’s leading news presenters, working for CNN Indonesia, with her own daily programme called Insight with Desi Anwar.

Back in the 1990s, Anwar created the country’s first news programme in the English language called Indonesia Today. She was also part of former president Suharto’s press corps, covering his state visits towards the end of his rule from 1991-1997. Before she joined CNN, she worked for Metro TV and RCTI.

Anwar finished her studies in the United Kingdom, obtaining a degree in French and European Studies from the University of Sussex, then taking her Master’s degree in Indonesian and Malay Studies at SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies), University of London.

As a writer, Anwar’s published works include books entitled Tweets for Life and A Romantic Journey.
