When Davis Chong started Solarvest some 10 years ago, there was little to no awareness of solar energy. Over the years, his efforts to educate the public and collaborate with policymakers have significantly contributed to creating a more favourable environment that encourages the adoption of solar energy. The current demand has grown to a point where the company is now doing more than just providing solar energy. It is transforming itself into a clean energy expert by offering a range of renewable energy services for homeowners, businesses, industries, and governments.

As a leader, Chong takes great pride in nurturing people and making positive changes in their lives. He achieves this through charitable initiatives, ongoing efforts to educate the public about renewable energy—via the Malaysian Photovoltaic Industry Association, of which he serves as president—and by supporting the small business community through mentoring start-ups in his company's Solarvest Innovation Lab programme.

Upcoming projects include a customised solar financing solution for businesses that don't require any initial capital outlays through its Powervest Program. They are also establishing Vestech Energy, a dedicated solar arm to serve the residential market in the installation of solar photovoltaic systems. Additionally, they are rolling out PowerBee, a green charging solution for electric vehicles. "The end game is to change the public perception of clean energy from being expensive and troublesome to obtain, to being convenient, affordable, and accessible to all," he says.
