A legal heavyweight known as Singapore’s counsel of choice, Davinder Singh—now head of his own self-named practice—has taken on high-profile cases during his career, including defending two prime ministers in court hearings

Davinder Singh is widely considered Singapore’s foremost litigator, often acting for the country’s prime ministers Lee Kuan Yew and Lee Hsien Loong in various civil proceedings. Prior to starting his own firm in 2019, Davinder Singh Chambers, Singh worked at Drew & Napier for 37 years, rising to the position of CEO as well as executive chairman.

Singh has handled a number of high-profile cases in his career. He represented Singapore Press Holdings in a 2005 lawsuit brought against the publisher by the then CEO of the National Kidney Foundation, TT Durai, for defamation in an article stating he had a gold-plated tap installed in his office. Singh also acted for Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in a defamation lawsuit brought against blogger Roy Ngerng in 2014, when the latter claimed that Central Provident Fund savings had been misappropriated.

Singh is also the chairman of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre and a vice-chairman of the Paris-based ICC Commission on Corporate Responsibility and Anti-corruption. Outside of his legal career, he has also been a politician, contesting the 1988 Singaporean general election, and serving as a member of parliament for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC and an adviser to the constituency’s grass-roots organisations from 1988 to 2006.
