Group CEO, Habib Jewels
A steward of Malaysian heritage, Dato’ Sri Meer Habib preserves the nation’s artistic legacy while elevating local craftsmanship to the global stage
Dato’ Sri Meer Habib, has led Malaysia’s premier jewellery brand since 1986, and has been instrumental in the direction and growth of the company that was founded by his late father, Habib Mohamed. He is largely credited for shifting Habib’s original jewellery wholesale business in Penang into a retail business, with their first jewellery store in Kuala Lumpur turning Habib into a household name, and leading to the creation of the brand’s trademark masterpieces.
Habib is also behind a number of firsts for a jewellery brand in the country: the company was the first to take part in international trade shows and jewellery exhibitions, and in 1998, it became the first public-listed jeweller. It has since sold its listed vehicle to become private again. Starting 2011, Habib began bringing in international brands under the group umbrella like Pandora, Les Georgettes, Oro Italia and Stephen Webster.
His recent milestones include the breaking ground of Masjid Habib in Bandar Tanjong Pinang in December 2022 as well as the fulfilling work Habib does with Yayasan Habib. Habib also recently launched HARTA Space, a museum and art gallery which showcases and educates Malaysians on jewellery from Habib’s archives and the artworks they’ve collected over the years. Habib is also set to open its first flagship building near Jalan Masjid India in Kuala Lumpur by December 2025, capitalising on the area’s popularity as a shopping hub to draw foot traffic.
