Steering Malaysia’s sovereign wealth fund while reimagining the nation’s heritage assets

Dato’ Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir has led Khazanah Nasional Berhad, Malaysia’s sovereign wealth fund, since July 2021, overseeing its mandate to generate sustainable long-term value for the nation. In 2026, Khazanah marked another milestone in heritage conservation with the reopening of the 119-year-old Old General Post Office at the Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad Complex on 23 May. Revitalised as a cultural and culinary destination, the landmark forms part of Warisan Kuala Lumpur, Khazanah’s broader initiative to conserve and reactivate historic assets.

The restoration of the Old General Post Office was Khazanah’s third successful heritage project in Kuala Lumpur, following Seri Negara and Block 1 of Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad. It reflects an approach to national development that extends beyond financial returns to encompass cultural preservation, urban regeneration and public engagement.

A chartered accountant by training, Amirul Feisal brings extensive experience in investment banking and corporate leadership to Khazanah. He is also chairman of Iskandar Investment Berhad, Yayasan Khazanah and Amanah Warisan Negara. These efforts reflect his tireless involvement in initiatives spanning economic development, education and national heritage.
