Chef and Founder, Horizon Hospitality
A celebrated Malaysian chef who has earned Michelin acclaim and has been conferred Chevalier de l’Ordre du Mérite Agricole
Darren Chin is chef-patron and founder of the Horizon Hospitality group, best known for his flagship fine dining destination DC by Darren Chin in Kuala Lumpur. After training at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris (Grand Diplôme in cuisine and pâtisserie) and honing his craft in France, he returned to Malaysia in 2014 to establish DC. He is renowned for fusing classic French technique with bold Asian influences and championing a “young cuisine” philosophy.
Over recent years his restaurants have earned consistent acclaim: DC retained its one-Michelin-star status in the 2025 edition of the Malaysian Michelin Guide and his group’s other brands (including Bref by Darren Chin and Gai by Darren Chin) continue to be recognised by the Guide. In June 2025 he was conferred the French knighthood title Chevalier de l’Ordre du Mérite Agricole, becoming only the second Malaysian chef to receive the honour in recognition of his contributions to the agricultural and culinary arts. Under his leadership Horizon Hospitality is expanding with new concepts and international-collaboration projects (such as a chef-residency in the Maldives) that aim to elevate Malaysia’s dining scene with refined gastronomic innovation.
