The female director left her mark with films about war and human fate, contributing to creating a new look for Vietnamese historical cinema.

Dang Thai Huyen (born September 3, 1980, in Hanoi) is the Deputy Director in charge of Art at the People's Army Film Studio. Graduating as the valedictorian of Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema, she quickly affirmed her talent through works like Dem Vung Bien (Night in the Border Area) and Muoi Ba Ben Nuoc (Thirteen Wharves) – the film that earned her the Best Director Award and the Golden Kite at the Vietnam Film Festival.

Subsequent works such as Dat Lanh (Good Land), Nguoi Tro Ve (The Returnee), and Loi Nguyen Gia Toc (The Family Curse) demonstrate her delicate adaptation skills and humanistic perspective in cinematic storytelling. In 2017, she became the first female Vietnamese director to make a horror film.

In 2025, with the war project Mua Do (Red Rain) – recreating the Battle of Quang Tri Ancient Citadel – Dang Thai Huyen made a big splash as the film achieved high box office revenue and is considered one of the largest-scale cinematic projects by the People's Army Film Studio in the past decade.
