Chairman and Group CEO, Unilab, Inc.
Across the ranks of United Laboratories, the story of its founders JY Campos and MK Tan is well-known and often told. In 1945, Campos and Tan put up a small corner drug store in Manila—a business that grew to become the Philippines’ largest pharmaceutical company, with greater market share than foreign multinationals like Pfizer and GlaxoSmithKline. Unilab is a venerable healthcare empire, and heir to it all is Clinton Campos-Hess, the founder’s grandson and now the top figure at Unilab.
The business inherited by Campos-Hess includes hospitals, clinics, and a broad range of pharmaceutical products. Its consumer medicine brands like Biogesic and Neozep, as well as its generic medicines under the RiteMed unibrand, are stocked by households across the country. In April 2021, Unilab announced plans to manufacture COVID-19 vaccines locally by 2023.
To his top leadership role, Campos-Hess brings years of experience working in his grandfather’s company, as well as education from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and from Harvard Business School.
