Creative director, designer, and producer, Theatre Group Asia
The Filipino creative director, designer and producer continues to make prodigious waves in the world of arts and entertainment
The Tony Award-winner, who has collaborated with industry titans like Jennifer Hudson, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Lupita Nyong’o, remains the producing creative director at the New York City Center and the visual director of Lincoln Center’s Summer For The City festival. Born and raised in Cebu, Ramos’s illustrious career stems from his training at the University of the Philippines and a Master of Fine Arts from New York University.
His 2025 accomplishments have cemented his status as a key champion of Filipino global talent. Ramos co-founded Theatre Group Asia (TGA) and, as its Overall Artistic and Creative Director, spearheaded a triumphant launch. This included the successful staging of Request sa Radyo, starring acclaimed Filipino actresses Lea Salonga and Dolly de Leon in alternating roles—a poignant tribute to late TGA co-founder Bobby Garcia.
The year’s crowning achievement was TGA’s August production of Stephen Sondheim's iconic musical, Into the Woods, which sold out its entire run in Manila. Ramos’s direction infused the work with a distinct, local sensibility, leveraging a world-class, all-Filipino cast that included Lea Salonga as The Witch. Further solidifying his global standing, Ramos secured his seventh career Tony Award nomination in May 2025, for Best Costume Design of a Musical for Maybe Happy Ending, a historic nod that saw him among five talents of Filipino heritage nominated in a single season. The momentum continues with the announcement of TGA’s next major production, A Chorus Line, set for 2026, for which Ramos will again take the creative helm.
