Chun Chen Liu

Co-founder and CEO, Kneron

Can Chun Chen Liu's Kneron be the first AI chip unicorn of Taiwan?

Chun Chen Liu founded Kneron in 2015 with a vision of bringing Edge AI and machine learning to mass-market devices. Headquartered in San Diego, USA but with close connections to the Taiwan tech industry, Kneron has moved from making chips for IoT into surveillance and automotive applications.

The company just launched its first automotive-grade chip with major innovations that will lead to more accurate image detection and decreased processing times, a leap in autonomous driving safety. The chip is set to be used in Foxconn’s forthcoming electric vehicle brand Foxtron, a collaboration with Yulon Motor.

Liu has plans to go public in a couple years, with backing from the likes of Alibaba, Qualcomm, and Sequoia Capital amounting to US$100 million. Prior to establishing Kneron, Liu worked for Qualcomm and Samsung, owns 30 international patents, and has published over 70 academic papers.
