Christina Garcia Frasco

A lawyer by training, Christina Frasco, began her political journey as the mayor of Liloan, Cebu, a position she held from 2016 until her appointment as Secretary of Tourism in June 2022. Her mother, Gwendolyn Fiel Garcia-Codilla, is the current governor of Cebu, and her grandfather, Pablo Garcia, served three terms in the House of Representatives. Her husband, Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco, is the current representative of Cebu’s fifth district in Congress and serves as the House Deputy Speaker for the 19th Congress.

In 2021, Frasco was honoured with the Presidential Lingkod Bayan Regional Award for her innovative governance and commitment to sustainable programs. This award underscored her proactive initiatives that have significantly impacted public service.

As Secretary of Tourism, Frasco has led the launch of the Love the Philippines campaign, a significant initiative that replaced the long-standing It’s More Fun in the Philippines slogan. Despite facing criticism for this change, she has remained steadfast in her decision. Her tenure has been marked by a strong focus on revitalising tourism and elevating the Philippines' global standing in this sector.

Under Frasco's leadership, the Philippines achieved significant milestones in the global tourism arena in 2024. On June 16, during the 25th General Assembly of the United Nations World Tourism Organization held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, the Philippines was elected vice president of the assembly—a position the country had not held for 24 years. This election marked a significant return to a leadership role, underscoring the Philippines' commitment to enhancing its presence in international tourism discussions.

Frasco’s innovative approach has garnered international recognition; for her contributions to the industry, she received the prestigious Tourism Good Governance Award from SKAL International.
