This filmmaker gives marginalised people a seat on the world’s stage
Chiang Wei Liang is a Singaporean filmmaker based in Taiwan whose 2024 debut Mongrel—co-directed with his wife Yin You Qiao—won Cannes and Golden Horse honours. But his proudest moment was taking Kuo Shu-wei, his lead actor, who has athetoid cerebral palsy, to Cannes. Wei Liang crafts raw, socially driven films in order to spark dialogue. He also mentors young talent at the Golden Horse Film Academy.
