The Ingenues | The multidisciplinary creative plays many roles in her artful life

The Filipino It girl Chi Loyzaga Gibbs, who has been based in Singapore since 2019, is a multidisciplinary creative who plays many roles in life: she’s a traditional artist and digital illustrator, has her own fashion design label, is a stellar content creator and a music career to boot. She credits her family as key sources of her many stylish inspirations, with her first fashion memory being her father coming home in drag. “My parents are actors so they would come home in costume all the time, and seeing them embody different roles definitely informed my sense of fashion and personal style growing up.”

To this day, Gibbs, who subscribes to a vibrant, playful and retro-influenced aesthetic, says she puts her outfits together with a specific character in mind when getting dressed up. “I’m inspired by decades, the 1960s and ’70s in particular, even for athleisure. That’s one thread that has remained unchanged over the years, while it’s the confidence to not bend to trends that has evolved—I know what I like and I stick to it, as colourful and playful as I like”.

Her kaleidoscopic artworks are making their way onto gallery walls here since revisiting her first love of painting, and her collaborations are some of the most artful, and enviable—she’s the only Asian outside of the US to have designed her very own pair of Nike Air Jordan 2 Lows, which has become a coveted collectible for sneakerheads all over the world, especially in the Philippines.

“I was fortunate to grow up in a household that celebrated creative expression freely.”
