The painter translating memory into internationally exhibited works

Artist Chen Ching-Yuan works at the intersection of figurative painting, founding his personal studio to translate everyday landscapes, political symbols and human gestures into images with a fable-like quality. His work has been shown internationally: he participated in the 18th Istanbul Biennial, co-launched an inaugural issue, and held solo exhibitions in Bogotá and at TKG+ in Taipei in May and October, respectively. His work has been acquired by Hong Kong's M+ museum and included in the landmark art publication Vitamin P4.

Behind these achievements, 2025 brought Chen Ching-Yuan a double blow—the loss of his pet and his father's critical illness. In a period of extreme turmoil, he found a way to rebuild his rhythm through the heavy physical labour of relocating his studio, managing to stabilise his practice. Deeply inspired by theatre director Dimitris Papaioannou, he is currently experimenting with different creative forms while throwing himself into preparations for his debut solo exhibition in New York next year. He hopes that future, larger-scale international collaborations will allow him to continue using painting to connect personal experience with collective memory.
